Nativity of the Theotokos (September 8)

You can will find a full liturgical schedule for this feast in the bulletin or at our website.  You can also read more about the history and traditions of this feast at archpitt.org or in first linked article in this week’s emailed bulletin.

“The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated on September 8, belongs on the list of the Twelve Major Feasts of the Byzantine rite liturgical year (cf. Gospel of Sinai, 715 A.D.) We usually do not celebrate the birthday of the Saints, but rather their “birthday to heaven,” that is, the anniversary of their death, considered as the beginning of their blessed life with God. Nevertheless, there are two exceptions, the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist, since we commemorate not only their birthday to heaven, but also their nativity, their coming to this earth.”

Emergency Line

Dear Parishioners,

We have a new emergency line that can be used in case you or a family member are in need of the Mystery (Sacrament) of Unction (Sacrament of the Sick/Last Rites) or need to talk to a priest in any emergency.  The number is 818-517-6066.  This number is available for texting or calling.  It won’t always be answered by Father Michael, but will allow for a more immediate response from a priest.  Please save it in your phones.

“Certainly, God did not send his Son into the world to judge world, but so that the world should be saved through him.” Christ is truly the salvation of the world. As Christians, we are little Christs. Each of us can bring salvation to the world by living the life of Christ. Is God calling you to show his salvation to the world by a life of prayer and repentance as a priest, deacon, monk or nun? To learn more, contact the Vocations Office at 602-861-9778 or email: vocations@ephx.org
